A Daydream Believer

Most days pass and I fail to notice that I am older until something forces me to stop and admit that I am not a kid.
Davy Jones
February 29, a few days ago, Davy Jones of
The Monkees died of a heart attack.  The news revealed Davy was 66 years old.  What?  How can that be?

He and the rest of the band are young men. They survive prat falls, run crazy in multiple directions at once and still have enough breath to play instruments and entice listeners to sing along with their feel good songs.

Then reality rudely demands attention and reminds me that The Monkees TV show only ran from 1966 to 1968, over 40 years ago.  Wait that means they got older and so did I, and all the little girls with cherished crushes on the band. I was going to marry Peter Tork. I did not have a clue as to how we would meet, but at 11 years old, I was not worried about the details.  All my daydreams involved marrying Peter and traveling with the Monkees.

Now, memories of watching their show and then pretending to be a rock star make me smile.  Soon, I will be 57 not 11 and even though I did not marry Peter; I am still a Daydream Believer.

Thank you Monkees for all the fun. Love and prayers to Davy's family and friends.

Remembering Davy Jones

  1. This is a sweet, nostalgic post, Terry. Wow, The Monkees only aired for two years? I too remember it like it was yesterday. Davy was my crush.

    1. Thanks Robyn,

Remember when muscians were more famous for their talent than their troubles? The Monkees were G rated and still attracted the girls.

  2. Yes, Teri. It's sad to consider how far society's plummeted from innocent "monkeyin' around."

  3. I caught the second "wave" of the Monkees via their syndicated re-runs during the late 1970s, a.k.a My childhood. I was just as in love with them as your generation was, and I loved getting a glimpse of 1960s culture.

But PETER? REALLY? That's a sexy shot of him you have posted, but he was SO not on my radar. I must say that it was all about Davy for me. But funny that I was fascinated by Mike, because I had never met a Texan before. How funny life is, that I wound up spending my entire adult life in Texas!

    1. Peter was sexy. “Attraction is subjective” translation “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Peter reminded me a lot of a guy from my own world who I really, really liked.
